I feel a bit disappointed in this fourth installment of Susan Wigg’s series The Lakeshore Chronicles. I am unsure if there was anything “wrong” with the story, it just felt predictable and formulaic. There was a lot of potential in this particular storyline and I feel like it all fit together perfectly, but just missing the element that makes it come to life. The characters remained 2 dimensional and never grew out of their mold. It is terribly frustating to know what an author is capable of only to be disappointed. For Wiggs, I read her stories and specifically this series because of her ability to write her characters and to make the reader feel true emotion. However, in Snowfall at Willow Lake the emotion never translated from page to reader, all the elements were there, but something was missing. I loved the characters of Sophie and Noah however I hoped for more.
I’ve heard many people say that Dockside was their least favorite of all the stories in this series so far, and while I wasn’t a fan of Nina’s, I definitely felt more of a connection to the overall story in Dockside.
While I rated this a B it was because of the overall storyline growth and the potential I hope is reached again when Fireside is released in February 2009. I truly hope that Bo captures my heart. I have a soft spot for those bad boys with tortured souls. I can only hope that Bo lives up to my expectations.
